The Aurora Museum Foundation’s fundraising dinner celebrating the groundbreaking of the Aurora History Museum’s building expansion will be held Thursday night, January 23 at the Heritage Eagle Bend in Southeast Aurora.

December 18 – Soldiers on Skis

Meet Flint Whitlock, author of Soldiers on Skis, and learn about the history of the 10th Mountain Division, America’s only troops trained specifically for winter and mountain warfare at Camp Hale, Colorado. Find out more about the unique challenges they encountered and what life was like as a soldier on skis.

 

January 15 – To Protect and Serve Aurora

The Aurora Police Department is committed to maintaining and improving peace, order, and safety through excellence in law enforcement and community service, but how are they accomplishing that mission? Learn more the APD and some of the innovative projects aimed at increasing the quality of life in our community.

 

February 19 – Journey to Art in Public Places

Take a visual journey to see the vast and varied collection of public art in Aurora, and hear the stories behind how some pieces were chosen, changed or otherwise acquired by the city. We guarantee you will be surprised, delighted and entertained!

EXHIBIT: Powers of Persuasion: Advertising in America

Nov. 26, 2013 – April 27, 2014, Aurora History Museum

From Harper’s Magazine to Madison Avenue, advertising has enticed consumers for hundreds of years. Americans, after rationing their way through the Great Depression and Second World War, were excited to buy new products. Afraid they might continue their frugal ways, companies launched ad campaigns to encourage people to replace their products and buy the latest upgrade or color change. Enjoy both local and national historic advertisements, and view some of the merchandise these ads persuaded customers to purchase, including Coors, Coca-Cola, Jell-O and Aunt Jemima.
